Two days in a row.

Long Sleep
That two days of both posting and writing. Is this some kind of record? Well, it certainly seems to be for me, anyway.

Today I have written 556 words - most of which were brand new, apart from a few where I changed a bit... That makes a total of 1226 words. Which is a certain percent (around one...?) of the whole thing finished. Yay!

And, I've just added a character who wasn't in the original idea at all but looks like he may be going to be fairly important.

In other news... first day of work went well. People nice. Place I am working nice. Nice.

Tomorrow...

Long Sleep
is my last day in my current job. This is one of the reason's I have not been posting recently. I have been working like the proverbial sapphire-hue rear-ended insect to get the next six months work done in the month before leaving. And why do I do this? Mainly because I'm stupid, I think. And there is that whole 'consciencious' (which took me three goes to spell and I'm still not completely certain I've got right but I really can't be arsed to go and find a dictionary) thing which apparently has a deeper hold on me than I previously thought.

Mind you, it doesn't help that I decided last Friday: 'I know, I'll just rewrite the database that I've spent the last two and a half years writing and refining.'

So, I start my new job at t'council on Wednesday. It's basically the same as I'm doing now but for more money. Like my current job, it's brand new, so I'll be basically creating it as I go along. So, we'll see how it goes. More news, probably somewhat after it happens.

Lulu.com has listed my book, The Long Sleep
on Amazon.com!

I've got a new job! I start at North Tyneside Council as a Research and Information Support Officer on the 1st July. No students, no parents, no EMA. And an extra 4 grand a year. it's all good.

Candy has had an operation on her ankle, so she's back on crutches for the next six weeks. She's survived a week so far but she already starting to go stir crazy.

Long Sleep
What a way to finish a Christmas holiday - with a job interview!

It's for a position at a school on the coast doing broadly the same thing that I'm doing at the College, but with a bit more responsibility and money. I'm a bit nervous but that's probably a good thing.

I'll let you know...

Interview

Long Sleep
In a little over half an hour, I have an interview for a job. It's still in the college, just in a different department. As far as I can tell, it's basically the same as I'm doing now, but will cover a wider remit (i.e. the whole college rather than just the sixth form) and it's an extra five grand a year.

So, why am I feeling kind of dubious about the whole thing? I think the main problem is that it's in the MIS department who have a long history of screwing up. Their last big error which involved me was their managing to do a job which would have taken me no more than a month (had MIS actually bothered to allow me access to the resources necessary for me to do the job) in six months and then getting it so badly fucked that half the data (which, arguably was the most important part of the data) was utterly unusable.

However, I keep telling myself two things: Firstly - five grand a year. FIVE GRAND A YEAR! That will go a hell of a long way to sorting out our monetary problems. And secondly, it's not as if I have to stay there for ever and it will be an extremely useful step towards something and somewhere else.

Anyway, I'll update after the interview.

As an addendum to my failure to get a payrise, guess what I found today? A vacancy bulletin, sent around the internal email system, which includes a vacancy for a 'Data Administrator' (which just so happens to be my job title...) at a different school (also consider that I was the frist Data Admin hired as such at the college) for which the pay rise is £2000/yr more than I am getting and which is, apparently, all my job is worth.

Considering that the two decisions (to kick me in the teeth and to advertise for the new post) had to have been made by the same people and, considering the timing, they must have been very close together, I have to ask What The Fuck Were These People Thinking???
