Much Slashing in the 'Wood

Apparently, one of the guest stars for next year's series of Torchwood is James 'Spike from Buffy and Angel' Marsters.

Start your Spike/Captain Jack slash writing engines.... NOW!

Although, considering how slashy the first series of T'Wood was, you may have to go some to beat the real story.

So... what now?

It's kind of strange not writing at the moment. Except I am, obviously, because - hey! - where does this stuff come from otherwise. But you know what I mean. Knowing that I haven't got a self-imposed deadline (which, by the way, I TOTALLY beat! Yay me!) to hit and not wanting to start on the next book until I've at least read through this one once. And, just to make it that little bit more annoying, I worked out the first scene of the next book in my head this morning and the whole structure is starting to come together.

So, what can I talk about...

I know! Torchwood!

Well, it's not brilliant, is it? This week's episode (I tend to record the BBC3 showing on Sunday evening and then, ironically, don't get around to watching it until Wednesday evening when it's repeated on BBC2) was at least competent. And it was one of the best ones of the series. Really, if it wasn't for the Doctor Who connection I wouldn't be watching it all. Candy and I tend to sit and pick holes with it throughout the entire episode.
An example from this week, and further discussion with spoilers )
One thing I noticed, watching the TW Declassified thingy after it, was the severe lack of any interviews with Chris Chibnall, who is supposed to be doing the whole show-runner type thing with Russell T Davies only being Exec Producer, and yet RTD was there talking about the story and how he tweaked it (he added the line about gloves coming in pairs, apparently. Which actually made me hope that the second glove is never found, I think that idea has been done now and doesn't need revisiting). Does this mean that something has happened to Mr Chibnall? Maybe the PTB's at the BBC realised that he wasn't really very good and got rid of him, letting RTD jump in once Doctor Who had finished and try and save the show? Who knows? There's certainly been no mention of it on Outpost Gallifrey or anywhere else, as far as I can see. So, I'm probably wrong and it was just coincidental, but, who knows?

I've just started reading Accelarando by Charles Stross and I'm really enjoying it, although I've either read it or a short story version of it before. (Okay, checking out his website I've discovered that I read a short story version of the first chapter in a Year's Best SF collection. So that's okay and good to know that the rest of the book will be new to me.)

Now, before I stop writing and go back and do some work, here's a link to an interview in TV Guide with Joss Whedon about the comic book Buffy Season 8.

Don't you really wish I'd get back to writing fiction?
