Is this a story I see before me?

Well, continuing on with what I did yesterday - although re-reading it, I'm going to have to do some serious rewriting of the opening, but it can wait - I can see a story starting to slowly force its way out of the mire, like a delicate flower in the middle of a swamp. I've got a few ideas about where to go, although no idea about the end yet.

Apropos of absolutely nothing, I watched Priscilla, Queen of the Desert again last night. It's a wonderful film. Utterly silly, although with some vety serious points about homophobia. And all three of the actors made excellent girlies. And, all three of them are in some of my other favourite films - Terrance 'Kneel Before Zod!' Stamp in Superman 1 and 2, Hugo Weaving in The Matrix (I still really like the first one. As far as I'm concerned the sequels never happened.) and Lord of the Rings (and V for Vendetta, although that is less favourite. Not bad, but certainly on a different level to the other films mentioned here) and Guy Pearce (In Priscilla pretty much straight from playing a pretty boy in Neighbours going to playing a pretty boy of an entirely different sort) in LA Confidential. A wonderful film with fabulous outfits. Although none I would actually want to wear, you understand. And some gorgeous imagery - Guy Pearce's character sitting on a giant stilletto shoe on top of the bus, in a sparkly silver outfit, huge sheets of silver material fluttering out behind him while he lipsyncs to opera. Utterly ridiculous and yet utterly fantastic!

And, by the way, if anyone has any interest in comics, you should do yourself a favour and check out this week's Marvel Adventures:The Avengers (#9). It's hilarious. It hs the Avengers getting captured and transformed into MODOKs (here changed to MODOC - the C for Conquest rather than the K for Killing, 'cos, y'know, it's for kids...) - giant headed, psychotic, psychic versions of themselves who travel around in floating chairs. And then they go and fight Rommbu. It's very, very, very silly. And I liked it lots.

I loved Pricilla. Much better movie than its Hollywood knock-off To Wong Fu, though the little latina/o as played by John Leguizamo in To Wong Fu is priceless.

I've never actually seen it, mainly because I heard it was mostly a poor rip-off of Priscilla. ALthough the title is pretty wonderful.

Evil Hollywood, why do they redo perfectly wonderful foreign films and wreck them? I refuse to watch the Hollywood version of the wonderful Japanese film "Shall we Dance?" too.

Hey, it's not just wonderful foreign films they wreck. It's also the remakes of old Hollywood movies that should be banned.

Eventually they'll redo Casablanca with Brad Pitt.

I was specifically trying to avoid contemplating the thought of a remake of Casablanca!

Actually, come to think of it, they've already remade it: Please note - I have NEVER seen this film, nor do I ever want to.

How strange that you watched Priscilla. I recently got it very cheap on DVD and watched it the other weekend with my fella. It's true, the three guys are very good as gals, Terence Stamp in particular is a revelation. I absolutely love the scene in the hick-town bar when he tells the butch diesel dyke where to shove it / her tampon.

Guy Pearce is absolutely gorgeous and it's great to see him in a frock, camping it up. Somehow I don't think Plain Jane Superbrain would have liked him like that in Neighbours. Nor would most of Ramsey Street (although did you know Jason Donovan played Frank-en-furter a few years back? I think Guy looks much nicer as a girlie though). I too love the scenes where the trannies sit on top of the bus whilst cruising through the desert, with all that amazing scenery as a backdrop.

You mean to say you found their outfits too OTT? How can you possibly say that?

About time I posted a few pics of me and my fella dressed up, on my blog. I think he looks better than me though.

That is a really funny scene. But the whole thing is written with loads of verve and wit.

And, I dunno about Plain Jane. I think that beneath that brainiac-geek exterior was a hot, pulsating woman of lurve and lurst who might well have thought a boyfriend in panties to be a real turn-on...

And it's not the OTT-ness of the outfits, it's that fact that, really, most of them aren't that feminine...

By the way, Simon, I assume this is you...

Yes it's me!

I don't know what happened there. I forgot to sign in I think...whoops.

Yes indeed it's a good romp of a movie.

Wouldn't that have been interesting it Jane had got Mike to dress up as a laydee.

Yes, the outfits in Priscilla are obviously parodies of women's clothes - big time.
